biuret The proportion of nitrogen in biuret is 46.2%, the chemical formula is H2N-CO-NH2.

Urea is used as a fertilizer for grain, industrial, vegetable, and fodder crops. When used as a foliar dressing, even in increased concentration, urea absorbs well, and does not cause any burns. Since this substance has the highest percentage of nitrogen, it is considered the most cost-effective and most feasible to use.

Biuret is toxic to any plant, as it inhibits its growth. The introduction of a large amount of this substance into the soil negatively affects the crops. The concentration of biuret in urea should not exceed 1%, otherwise it will affect plants as a broad spectrum herbicide.

At a concentration of 3%, biuret is toxic to plants, therefore, its application immediately before sowing inhibits plant development. In soil, biuret is completely decomposed in 10-15 days. It is recommended to maintain this interval between the introduction of urea into the soil and sowing. With a biuret concentration of 0.8% and below, it does not have a negative effect on plant seedlings, regardless of the time of fertilization (it's possible immediately before sowing).

Different plants tolerate biuret differently. Spring wheat experiences its toxic effect at 5% concentration, and reacts negatively already at 3% concentration. Corn is extremely sensitive to biuret. When it is contained in urea at an amount of 5.3%, the stems are damaged, corn leaves curl, and yellow chlorotic spots appear between the veins, and the leaf edges crack.

In European countries, urea is used with a biuret concentration of no more than 0.8%. While the average biuret concentration in fertilizers produced by Ukrainian companies is 1.4%. PE "Zakhid" offers its customers urea produced by the "Garabogazkarbamid" plant (Turkmenistan), which contains only 0.7% of biuret. Thus, this fertilizer can be used without worrying about harming the crop.
